Live Center Applications

The C4T live center is commonly used in high-speed, high-volume, production applications where cycle times and part accuracies are crucial. The C4T live center is designed to handle the demands of high RPM turning while maintaining accuracy and finish. The Inpro labyrinth seal provides superior protection while eliminating the weaknesses associated with traditional lip seals.

Live Center Availability

C4T live centers are available from stock in both four and five Morse Tapers. Three standard point configurations are offered to provide maximum flexibility. Standard point, tracer point and long point live centers are available from stock. Custom variations of the C4T live center can be designed using our on-line design tool or by discussing your application with one of our product specialists.

Live Center Technical Specifications

The C4T live center utilizes three matched angular contact bearings. Our large inventory of precision bearings are graded and matched for size to insure the proper bearing fit. Both the front and rear bearing bores are ground in one operation through a process unique to Riten Industries. As a result, bearing bores are both concentric and coaxial with the Morse taper. Proper bearing alignment and fit are key to providing an accurate live center with improved bearing life.

The Inpro labyrinth seal provides a frictionless, non-contacting seal with permanent bearing protection. A traditional elastomer lip seal begins to wear immediately as it rubs against the rotating spindle. As a result they have a limited service life. Their tight fit creates friction and heat which contribute to premature bearing failure. An Inpro labyrinth seal eliminates these short comings and extends the life of the bearings for maximum performance.

The shell is manufactured from low carbon steel and case hardened, while the spindle is manufactured from 52100 ball bearing steel and through hardened to provide the maximum strength and durability needed in a live center spindle.

Live Center Repair

Standard Advantage live centers will be rebuilt to “Like New” condition for 40% of the cost of a new tool. This is a total reconditioning of the entire live center. The shell is inspected for damage and the taper shank is reground as needed. The bearings, seals and spindle are replaced with new components and the live center is returned to its original accuracy. Every repair receives the identical factory warranty as that of a new live center.

In the unlikely event that your live center is beyond repair, Riten offers a preferred customer trade-in allowance of up to 35% on the purchase of an equivalent live center. Every Riten live center, no matter its condition, is eligible for trade-in. Repairs can be returned through you local Riten distributor or send direct to the factory.
