The Super Accurate live center is commonly used in precision grinding applications where dead centers have not been suitable. The available distance between centers is often at a premium in small cylindrical grinders. The compact, rigid design of the Super Accurate live center maximizes the available space between centers, while providing enough bearing capacity to support both large and small work pieces.
This center should not be used in applications where revolutions per minute exceed 1,000 RPM for extended periods. Excessive axial thrust loads and applications like face driving that require excessive axial loads should be avoided.
The Super Accurate series is readily available from stock in Morse, Jarno and Brown & Sharpe Tapers. Straight shank live centers are also available. Custom variations of the Super Accurate live center can be designed using our online design tool (link to Super Accurate CAD page).
The Super Accurate series of live centers are ideally suited for precision grinding applications. This design, unique to Riten Industries, is capable of accuracies under 100 millionths total indicated reading. This live center incorporates an integral single row, precision ground ball bearing. The shell and spindle are manufactured from 52100 ball bearing steel and heat treated to Rc60 for maximum strength and durability. The ball race in the shell and spindle are ground at the factory to precision tolerances. Nine ball bearings are matched to the shell and spindle to complete the bearing assembly. This integral precision ball bearing is the heart of the Super Accurate series. The result is an exceptionally accurate, compact, rigid live center.
This live center requires a minimum of five pounds of thrust pressure to seat the bearings. Axial movement of the spindle point is normal until the bearings are seated. Once the bearings are seated the live center will rotate within 100 millionths TIR.
Standard Super Accurate live centers will be rebuilt to “Like New” condition for 40% of the cost of a new tool. This is a total reconditioning of the entire live center. The shell is inspected for damage and the taper shank is reground as needed. The bearings, seals and spindle are replaced with new components and the live center is returned to its original accuracy. Every repair receives the same factory warranty just like a new live center.
In the unlikely event that the live center is beyond repair, Riten offers a preferred customer trade-in allowance of up to 35% on the purchase of an equivalent live center. Every Super Accurate live center, no matter its condition, is eligible for trade-in. Repairs can be returned through your local Riten distributor or sent direct to the factory.
